Oliver Cole EP and tourdates

“What Will You Do?” will be the first release off Olver Cole’s We Albatri album. Released on Friday 3rd October by EMI Records with the b-sides “Holding Your Heart” and “Sweet And Soft”. A number of dates are Ireland have also been annouced.

Thursday October 1st Dublin Odessa Club open to public.
Friday October 2nd Galway Roisin Dubh upstairs
Thursday October 8th Cork Cyprus Avenue.

Turn online shopping guide

One of the main comments on the YouTube’s is “where can I buy such and such a song”. Well it’s only ever “Harder” anyone’s looking for but anyway, you can now buy all three albums over the internet, including Forward, which for a long time was unavailable to buy digitally.

The Antisocial and Turn physical CDs can also still bought online easy enough, and it appears Forward and Check My Ears can be bought from independent sellers on Amazon and Play.com.

Oliver Cole gigs

Oliver Cole’s Myspace page has been updated with four new gigs, a support slot to Enda Reilly in Bewley’s on Grafton St. in Dublin, another support slot to Bell X1 in Vicar St, and two headline gigs in the Spirit Store, Dundalk and Radio City, Dublin.

One the 2FM radio session last week Ollie played two new piano songs, “Shadow of the Empire” and “Moth’s Wing”, a cover of The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry” and the song he wrote for the Cake Sale album “Too Many People”

The “We Albatri” album release date was also announced to be the 22nd of May, however the Radio City gig was dated May 25th so it might be best to take it as a rough guideline.

Little Palace reform

Little PalaceIan Melady’s pre-Turn band Little Palace have reformed with a new album and tour on the way. The band also features Martin Quinn, who played with Turn in 2003/2004 as a second guitarist/keyboardist.

Oliver Cole 2FM session

RadioOliver Cole will perform an extrAlive RTE 2FM Session to be broadcast on Friday 6 March during Jenny Huston’s show.

The show starts at 9:30pm, with the extrAlive bit starting at 10:30pm, so says rte.ie

Elliott Smith anniversary

Today marks the 5 year anniversary of the death of Elliott Smith, one of Ollie Cole and Turn’s favourite songwriters/musicans.

Both Ollie as a solo artist and Turn performed numerous covers of Elliott’s songs and here is a small selection of them.

HWCH line up

The day line of the Hard Working Class Heroes festival has been announced and Oliver Cole will headline the Dame Lane venue on the Saturday 13th, onstage from 10.55-11.30.

The bio on the HWCH website unfortunatly says that Oliver’s album will be released next year.

Oliver Cole and Concerto For Constantine will also play at the Wilde On gig as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival on Wednesday 17th in The Spiegeltent.

The event is described as “leading Irish musical and visual artists alongside Wilde aficionados presenting new, unheard and unseen work for a specially conceived, multimedia celebration of Oscar Wilde.”

Whelan’s gig setlist

Whelan's posterThe very first headline Oliver Cole gig took place in the newish venue of Upstairs in Whelan’s. Still playing with the same band as the the IMRO showcase tour in April - Gavin Fox (bass), Frankie Pollard (guitar, keys), Ciaran Fortune (drums).

The band opened up with the Turn b-side “Want It The Same”, now fleshed out for a full band performance. They continued with some of the future singalong classics like “What Will Ya Do With Yourself?” and playing another old Turn song “Life’s Great Advice”, an unreleased song from 2003/2004. Finishing up the night once more with “We Albatri” introduced with 101 albatross facts.

Oliver Cole updates

Oliver Cole’s Myspace page has been updated with a new gig: supporting The Minutes on their final Whelan’s Upstairs residency show (Tuesday 29 July) and with some new promo photos.

The tracks on music player have also changed with “A Drug Song” and “What Will Ya Do With Yourself” from the new album which seems to be definitely called We Albatri. The “Wide Open” demo has also returned to the page
